When the curvy cat steals from the beautiful bat there’s only one way it can end: Girl fight!
This retro tale, set in the era when Barbara Gordon was a fresh-faced young Batgirl and not the wheelchair-bound Oracle, genius leader of the Birds of Prey, opens with Catwoman nicking a notebook full of secrets that belongs to Barbara’s father, Gotham City Police Commissioner Jim Gordon. Incensed, the heroine takes off in hot pursuit of the thief in a high stakes game of cat and mouse (or bat, if you will).
Across rooftops, through alleys, into a hedonism club (a riotous scene worth buying this book for all by itself) and into a warehouse full of gangsters, the chase and battle continues.
But when Catwoman reveals the real reason she needs the notebook, to do good and not evil, and Batman himself gets involved, Batgirl finds herself with an even bigger test than just one bad guy: All of the Dark Knight’s nemeses.
The Cat and The Bat is utterly charming. Writer Fabian Nicieza (Nightwing, Robin) crafts a fast-paced, funny and extremely enjoyable tale and partnered with incomparable artist Kevin Maguire (Justice League International), one of the absolute best at capturing perfect facial expressions and explosive action, it cannot be recommended strongly enough.
